Teaching notes for dividing by 7
There is no simple check for 7, and pretending otherwise wastes a child's time. Recall the fact family instead. That check tells a child whether a number belongs on this sheet at all, which is a different skill from recalling the quotient. Break the number apart. 7 × 8 is 5 × 8 = 40 plus 2 × 8 = 16, which is 56. Splitting into 5s and 2s works for every 7s fact.
How to use this sheet
