Dividing by 6 Color by Number Worksheet

Each region holds one ÷6 fact, from 6 ÷ 6 up to 72 ÷ 6. Reach for this sheet once the 6 times table is solid, because every quotient here is that table asked backwards: 42 ÷ 6 is the same fact family as 6 × 7. 42 ÷ 6 and 48 ÷ 6. This is the same hard corner of the grid that troubles the 6, 7, and 8 times tables. Egg boxes, packs of six, and half a dozen. The word "dozen" gives children a handle on 6 and 12 together.

Teaching notes for dividing by 6

It has to pass both the 2 check and the 3 check. Even, and its digits add to a multiple of 3. That check tells a child whether a number belongs on this sheet at all, which is a different skill from recalling the quotient. Take the 5s fact and add one more group. 6 × 8 is 5 × 8 = 40, plus 8, which is 48. The 5s are reliable, so this route is reliable.

How to use this sheet

  • 1. Solve the problem printed inside each region of the picture.
  • 2. Find that answer in the color key at the top of the sheet.
  • 3. Color the region with the crayon next to it. Each swatch also carries a letter code, so the sheet still works printed in black and white.

The picture only comes out right if the facts were answered right, which is the point: a guessed answer shows up as a wrong color instead of disappearing into a page of ticks.

After the dividing by 6 sheet

A coloring sheet is deliberate, slow practice — good for a first pass and for the facts that are still shaky. Recall speed comes from short repeated retrieval, so pair it with a few minutes of online practice rather than another sheet.

Yes. Every fact on this sheet is that table asked backwards, so a child who is still counting up to 6 × 7 will find the division slow too. The 5s and the 3s. Both give a shortcut into the 6s. It has to pass both the 2 check and the 3 check. Even, and its digits add to a multiple of 3.

Each region of the picture shows one dividing by 6 problem. Solve it, find that answer in the color key at the top of the sheet, and color the region with the crayon next to it. A finished picture only looks right if every fact was answered correctly.
