Dividing by 7 Without Guessing
Turn the fact around. Division questions are answered from the multiplication fact you already know, not from a separate list. Read 42 ÷ 7 as "7 times what makes 42?" — the answer is 6, because 7 × 6 = 42.
The same move works on the ones that stay slow. 63 ÷ 7 is "7 times what makes 63?" — and 7 × 9 = 63, so the answer is 9. A child who hesitates here is usually missing the multiplication fact, not the division one. That is the fact worth practising.
The quick check. There is no simple check for 7, and pretending otherwise wastes a child's time. Recall the fact family instead.
Where it shows up. Days in a week. Working out how many weeks are in 56 days is a 7s division problem in disguise.
The slowest fact. 56 ÷ 7 = 8. Its multiplication partner, 7 × 8, is the most-missed fact on the grid, so the division inherits the difficulty.
