Teaching notes for dividing by 12
It must pass the 3 check and the 4 check. Digits adding to a multiple of 3, and halving twice cleanly. That check tells a child whether a number belongs on this sheet at all, which is a different skill from recalling the quotient. Split into 10 and 2 every time. Children who know this split can rebuild any 12s fact in about two seconds, even before it is automatic.
How to use this sheet
